The same is happening for me too, I've never ever had this issue before.
I can create a new character fine, but when I move them into a household it crashes, and also when I click to enter a new household.
This issue only started happening when I purchase Discover University Yesterday.

Crashes have some many reasons.
A lot of mods/custom content currently crash the game as they are no longer compatible with the newest patch.
Objects with a lot of slots no longer work and need to be removed. CC Beds/Shower/Computers also give issues

- Are you using custom content or mods in your game ?
- At what point does your game crash ?
- Is the crashing random or is there a pattern ?
- Is it an occasional crash or constant ?
