SIMS 4 UPDATE WONT LET CC RE-ENABLE

So I get that EA has chose to disable mods and cc for updates. When I start my game, the notice pops up letting me know that my game has been updated and that all CC and mods were disables. It also states that I can re-enable them at any time through the options menu.

I went into my options menu, re-enabled my CC, and then restarted the game as prompted. When the games restarts, the same disabled mods notice pops up every time.

I have:

- repeated the process

- removed all CC from the mods folder and put in a little at a time

- uninstalled and reinstalled Sims 4 completely

- removed all previously dowloaded CC from my game and installed new CC that is supposedly recent and "up-to-date"

It happens every time no matter what.

Is there a way around this? Or a way to maybe remove the most recent update and go back to the base? I am completely fine with how my game was running last time I played.

  • Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

@ssnyd3k Try moving the following file to the desktop: documents\electronicarts\thesims4\options(.ini)

You will need to reset all options afterwards but hopefully the changes will then stick.
  • I had the same problem. ,when I went in to the game options I clicked reset defaults and my custom content button allowed me to enable it once again and now my custom content is working

  • I get this is an OLD thread however i stumbled across this forum due to experiencing this issue for the FIRST time in my Sim gaming history after the update on 12/12/2019 and I've been playing since elementary school. I'm 25 now. LOL.

Anyways, i saw some were getting it to work using the other methods provided and some weren't. I was one of the few who weren't getting it to work. I tried everything from moving the options folder to my desktop, moving my mods folder to my desktop, opening and closing the game several times, clearing my Cache, restarting my computer, crying, eating my feelings, bargaining with the devil... i even deleted all my saves as a last resort and it would still give me the mods disabled error.

THEN I DID THIS AND IT WORKED:

I moved the sims folder ENTIRELY to my extra space drive on my SSD and named it "Electronic Arts BACKUP"

This removed it COMPLETELY from my documents (If it doesn't, just delete the folder but make sure you moving it to the other drive as a back up worked first if you don't want to lose anything like mods/saves/screen captures.) and then i restarted the game which will create a new Electronic Arts folder. Once started, i enabled mods, went out of the game, put my mods back in my new mods folder, restarted the game and IT TOOK. IT WORKED.

I hope this saves someone from drowning in their own tears like i did if the other options don't work for you.

  • Hi, I got the same issue after the recent 20th August update - the disabled modes notification would show up no matter you checked-in the allow-mod setting or not. As it turns out, some file in the Electronic Arts -> The Sims 4 map was causing the trouble, presumingly the "Game version" txt file, or whatever the text file is. That is, with all MAPS kept and all FILES moved out from "The Sims4" folder to some other location, this error no longer would appear. so this is the fix for my case, hope it is also helpful for anyone else.

    Hi everyone,

Since this is a pretty old thread I locked it to prevent further necro-posting.

If you need some help with a similar issue please create a new thread, and we'll take a look. Thanks!
