Hi, my Sims 4 game is not working properly again. I’m at the end of my rope at this point 😞
I’ve done everything everyone says and it just will not work. My PC has all the requirements, I’ve removed my sims 4 folder and started fresh and it’s still acting the same. Removed my mods entirely and it’s still not working right. I’ve cleared the EA cache and recently my PC took 7 hours to complete a repair install of windows. All that time and it didn’t do anything for my game. I’ve even repaired my game and it’s just not working.
it takes ten + minutes to even show up then takes forever to finally launch. Once in game the game lags so bad I can’t play it. My graphics driver is up to date and so is my windows.
I really don’t know what to do. It’s almost like I can never play again because nothing I do fixes it. I bought my PC bc it was recommended on here and then I also did everything recommended here to fix my game and it still hasn’t fixed.
while playing it freezes with a circle and says not responding (I’m in windowed mode) every few seconds then the screen turns white then it plays again and same cycle repeats barely 3 seconds later.
eventually I plan to upgrade the RAM on my PC but I don’t think that’s the issue at this point.

Hi,
I am reaching out again about my Sims 4 game.
i have exhausted all options I’ve been given to fix my game from doing a repair install of windows (that took 7+ hours to do), repairing game, reinstalling the EA app, to starting with a new folder and a new game from scratch and even just removing the mods folder from my original files. I also cleared the cache files from the EA app.
the game takes over 10 minutes to even launch so I will click play and EA tells me it’s already open yet no window appears with the game for many minutes. When I finally get in after endless loading screens my game lags severely, has a spinning circle and freezes and then my PC says it’s not responding. Then it crashes and I have to force quit.
At this point I don’t think I am doing anything wrong and it’s the game itself. Such a shame that I spent hundreds on this game and over $1000 on this PC and it never works! Nothing I do ever last more than a few days of gameplay before it stops working correctly again. What else can I do? My laptop is just about 5 years old. It’s not that old and I played for a good ten years on my old HP that wasn’t even a gaming PC before my game stopped working (I played 3 and 4).

Hi @smilelikemiles We can rule out if it's the game itself by testing it pure "vanilla", which means doing the kinds of tests you've done but in a specific order. The game does load and not lag in a vanilla game, and it doesn't just crash in one. If you get the symptoms you describe in a pure vanilla game, then I hate to say it, but ... it's something in either your hardware (it was SIms 3 that let me know my power supply was dying back in 2014) or something else in how your computer itself is running -- too many other things going on, perhaps. We'll try to stop as many of those things in this test as possible
Here's the order for a vanilla test with minimal background activity:
- Open Task Manager and quit running any tasks that are optional
- Turn off all syncing apps (OneDrive etc.)
- Drag the folder The Sims 4 out of the Electronic Arts folder to your desktop. Make sure it's moved, not copied.
- Now open the EA App, and then launch Sims 4 from it.
- Once it's running, open your Options and set all the ones under Other that half to do with anything online to off.
- In the main menu, select New and play in a premade household in a basegame world -- Willow Creek or Oasis Springs.

Thanks I will try this when I maybe attempt it tomorrow or later tonight if I can find the time.
i am not computer smart but if its a hardware issue what would I do? I simply cannot afford a new PC and don’t know when and if I can considering this one was very expensive. It’s just about 5 years old and I take good care of it and don’t download anything weird onto it so I’m not sure why there would be any issues.
I did try a vanilla game as you explained above and it didn’t work unfortunately. But the task manager thing- I couldn’t tell you what is and isn’t important in the background processes so I don’t want to end anything that shouldn’t be ended.
my PC has been running slow so it’s definitely not just my game but I already had Microsoft look into it and I definitely had windows errors so I did a repair install of it. I do want to get more RAM for my PC and I plan to do that soon, but I was trying to get this all sorted out first. I can’t seem to get anyone to figure out why my PC is so slow.
