Sims 4 will not launch on new PC

Hello all,

Recently I just built a new PC for myself and sometimes my Wife likes to play the sims 4. I transferred over the hard drives from our old PC into the new PC which included The sims 4 download. I cannot get the game to launch and the error I am receiving says "Unable to start: cannot start because game data is missing or damaged. if you have mods installed please remove them and try again. if not, please repair or reinstall the game via origin. [de4ee14f:29f00e76:000000000:4b0d852b]". I have never had any mods downloaded for this game previously and I am not sure why this is occurring. I have re-installed twice once with add-ons and once without any add-ons installed in the system I have also tried the origin repair function three times now. When I open the sims 4 folder it seems different from what I remember it being (see attached capture of game files). Can anyone help me?

@puzzlezaddict  Thanks for the response. It turns out that because there were existing files in the documents/electronic arts folder that it would not launch. I moved all files back into that folder and it works again. Thanks for the help!

  • @Colonialjordan  That's exactly what the program files are supposed to look like if you don't have any packs installed.  Mine has those five entries plus one for each pack.

When you transferred the data from the old computer, did you also put back the Sims 4 game folder in Documents\Electronic Arts?  If so, please move it to the desktop and try launching the game, which will spawn a clean folder.  If you can play in this folder, the problem is one or more corrupt files in the old game folder, most likely outdated mods or custom content.  You'll need to sort through those files manually, or just download replacements.

If the game won't launch even with a clean folder in place, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post here.
