Sims elect Elope option but won't get married

I have just started playing Sims 4 this past weekend, and have gotten two of my sims to move in together and get engaged. However, when I select the Elope option, the sims don't get married, the action just leaves the queue. Same thing when I plan a wedding: they can get to the wedding location, but when I select "Marry..." as an action, they do nothing. Every similar post I've seen seems to say that this is an issue with mods, but I don't have any installed. I've tried having it on different days, making sure they aren't supposed to be at work, and that all their needs are taken care of, but nothing seems to make a difference. Any ideas? I'm super disappointed to be having troubles this early on. 😞
