Sims Keep Freezing and I feel like I've done everything!!

Hey sorry I've never used this forum before so I'm not sure what I'm doing. My sims keep freezing within thirty seconds of starting my game. They will go to do an action but then just freeze and can't complete the action, even though the little green circle surrounding the action is full. Once they're at this state they can't fulfill any other commands.

I've removed all cc. Even Turned off the option for custom content. Reinstalled the app. Validated the files through steam. I'm trying to move the entire Sims 4 File to my desktop, but it stays in quick start no matter what i do so I'm not sure how to get rid of it. (I'm not very computer savvy whatsoever).

Also, i have a bunch of files that I don't think belong in the general sims 4 file, like "lastexception", but I'm not sure. I had some mod with the name last exception so maybe it has to do with that. I'm not sure what a clean, new sims 4 folder looks like, so I don't know if these files belong. Maybe they are causing the issues since I've totally emptied the mods folder.

Anyways, it's been multiple days now and I feel I've done everything and it's frustrating me beyond belief!

Any help is immensely appreciated!! Sorry again if this is such a redundant and frequent request.

(I initially just made a comment but that post was so old. I figured out how to do the dxdiag as well so  I am just uploading it here)

I ended up saving the household and the lot to my library from my old save file and bringing it to a different save (the new one that I started in my blank game). Using the same exact sims and same exact house, the issue went away- just uploaded from my library after saving it myself (so it technically isn't the exact same household).
The pausing/freezing isn't an issue with this clean Sims 4 folder, although when I transferred that old save over and tried to play it, it was.

No big deal though, as long as I could play and I couldn't tell the difference I don't mind. I guess it was something wrong with that save specifically. I had been using it for a while and never made new ones when I moved onto new households.

I also moved most of my mods over except the scripts, and reinstalled the only few script mods I wanted, so I know they're up to date now if they weren't previously. After adding all my cc back, that didn't cause any issue.

Thank you so much for your help, as I wouldn't have even been able to move my stuff over and play the game without figuring out how to get a clean slate.

  • @bunnykujo  Quick Access lists folders you open frequently, so it's no surprise that the Sims 4 user folder still appears there.  The question is whether this folder still appears in Documents > Electronic Arts.  You likely have a folder there, since you've launched the game at least once after trying to move the old folder.  But the important detail is whether the Sims 4 folder inside Electronic Arts is the old one or a new one.  The old one would have your saves and lastexception files and everything else from before you started troubleshooting; the new one should have all new files and no saves or mods.  Let me know what you find.

If the old folder is still in Documents > Electronic Arts, it's possible that OneDrive downloaded a fresh copy for you.  In that case, try pausing OneDrive syncing, which you can do by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.  Then move or rename the Sims 4 folder to allow the game to create a fresh one.

Please also let me know whether this problem happens in a new save, one that you create now for testing purposes.  I'm not saying your old save is toast, only that this is a useful test.

Okay so you're right, i was just looking in the wrong place haha. I removed the file from electronic arts and launched the game. It gave me a fresh Sims 4 file in there and now the game is completely empty.

What do I do from here to put my saves and mods back there without reintroducing whatever was causing the issue?

    Thanks again

@bunnykujo  Test your mods and custom content in the new folder to see whether having them present causes any more freezes.  If you have a lot of files to sort through, you can use the 50/50 method to make the process more efficient:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

I would also test your main save in the new folder, without any mods or cc present, to make sure the problem isn't the save itself.  You don't need to save your progress; just let me know what happens.

Moving files around is as simple as dragging and dropping, or copying and pasting (right-click a file and select Copy, then right-click where you want it to go and select Paste).  Saves go inside the saves folder, mods and cc in the Mods folder, and saved households and builds in Tray.  The files can be swapped between user folders without any special process.

I moved the save over with no cc and the freezing problem was still there.

@bunnykujo  Please try moving your main household to a different lot and playing them there.  This will distinguish between issues with the sims themselves and issues with the lot.  You don't need to save your progress; just let me know what happens.
