Sims stuck at work/redirected to map

I am having two issues with the game currently. My sims are getting stuck at work after a promotion and cannot go home. I've tried leaving work early, resetting the sim, moving the household, playing a different sim in the household and nothing is working. So I decided to quit the game and not save it. I tried playing the household and whenever I try I am redirected to the world map. Please help.
