Sims won't share double bed

I just downloaded the new Pets expansion pack and suddenly my sims will not share a double bed. Last time I played was about a month ago, so I'm not sure if it was another update causing the problem or what. I even went so far as to bulldoze the lot and start building a new home from scratch to see if it was something with the house I was using (I got it off the community). I made sure there is nothing even remotely close to the bed and no matter what I do, they will not sleep together. If one is in the bed, the other walks over to the occupied side, gets confused and gives the symbol that the other sim is in the way, and then gives up. It's super frustrating and I'm not sure what to do...

I do not use any game mods or custom content, so I know that can't be the issue.
