I've tested TS4 in W10 only, but a friend with almost a same pc but using W8.1 did the same test and we had the same results (fps drops even playing w/o mods and in the lowest setting possible).. Unticking Uncompressed textures seems make the things a little better but not too much (and the game has fps drops even if the sims are in another storie of the house, just moving the camera from side to side or panning creates the drops).
As I only have installed W10 in my pc I can't test with 8.1 now, but when I had 8.1 I had the same problems (fps drops but not too brutal as now).
With TS3 I had the same issue even on differnt pc's (and I've tested on W7/W8/W8.1 and the same happend no mattering the hardware of the pc, ex: PC1 (Phenom x4 2.4ghz, 4Gb of RAM, GTX 460) and PC2 (I7 3770, 16gb of RAM and GTX 770) had the same fps drops.
Note: I've installed Nvidia Drivers 347.52 and it seems that those drivers are working a litlle better but not so much, part of the problem can be caused by the drivers but the other part is caused by the game. I don't have this kind of issues on any of the others games I play or I've played, except TS3 (I hated TS3 because of its crappy performance but kept playing because the game was "good" in terms of the things you could do) - crinrict10 years agoHero+
Is it Sims 4 for you only or also a Sims 3 problem like for OP ?

Is in both games. I've tested with differnt hardwares (my old pc, that I don't owe anymore, and my actual pc ) and the problem was always there.
I don't play TS3 anymore (I don't have it even installed) since TS4 was released because I didn't even played for months because of the large loading screens and the performance issues :S
Maybe is a problem with Nvidia and its drivers, but this issue was present also in ts3 so is not new. - crinrict10 years agoHero+
Could you maybe try to record this ?

Hi crinrict! I've made 3 videos, one showing the problem (Fps drops and lag) and 2 showing the results after finding the culprit: the d.a.m.n Nvidia HD Audio drivers.
The videos:
First -> Sims 4 - FPS DROPS (and LAG) (lag and fps drops in : 0:08-0:10, 0:19-0:22, 0:22-0:24, and so on, practically the entire video 😕mileyvery-happy🙂
Second -> Sims 4 - Lag GONE - Vsync ON
Third -> Sims 4 - Lag GONE - Vsync OFF
In the description of the videos I've explained how I solved the problem, but I'll copy/paste it here too 😕mileywink:

Nvidia HD Audio drivers were causing the FPS drops in the games with my card, a GTX 770.
What I did? Following this advice
http://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/2iyerx/psa_to_all_nvidia_gtx_770_owners_who_are_having/
I did a clean uninstall of Nvidia drivers using this: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/
and then only installed:
- Graphic Driver,
- PhysX driver and
- GForce Experience.
I didn't install 3D, Miracast drivers and the other things because I don't use them.As windows update automatically installed HD Audio Driver again I:
- Installed the motherboard HD audio drivers, the most updated version from realtek website (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/)
- Disabled Nvidia HD Audio drivers from Control Panel ► Device Manager ► Sound, video and Game controllers section.Example: DRIVERS DISABLED (RED) AND INSTALLED/UPDATED (GREEN) ►http://s29.postimg.org/s8jqnbmp3/62_E.png
Reboot and done.
NOTE: This procedure solved all the problems with FPS drops I had not only in TS4 but also in other games like AC Unity where, before doing this I fps drops and lag and the game run at max 40fps, and after this lag is gone, most of the fps drops are gone too and game runs at 55-60fps.

So you're saying that this solved the issue for you and it's now ok ?
Tagging @DixieYT to try out.

Yep, solved now (or that's what it seems). The fps drops are still present but lag is gone. Camera movements are fluid now and stutter seems to be gone.
I'll experiment with RadeonPro to force triple buffer on TS4 and see if fps drops dissapear or at least are decreased. This is because only that program, and D3D overrider that doesn't work on W8.1, are the only ones capable of forcing the triple buffer technique in directX games (nvidia control panel can only force it in OpenGL)
I've had tested with AC Unity too and I noticed a great improvement too.
By the articles I've read this problem affect a lot of Nvidia Cards and a lot of games so if recommended to test "the fix" to see if you have any improvement with the games or not (if you have an Nvidia card)I think the trick was updating realtek drivers and disabling nvidia drivers as they may be in conflict. The other steps in the process (doing a clean uninstall and installing only the needed drivers) are optional but recommended.
i think mine is my pc because it happends in simcity 5 aswell do you have any idea what could be wrong with my pc

Hi!
Please read what I've posted about Nvidia HD Audio Drivers and try it. Fps drops, stutter and lag were problems I had with several games, not only TS4. Because of the problem with those drivers the card tends to underperform (as I've read in the articles I've linked in my previous post) and that caused all the problems we have. A friend with a gtx 670 tested the "fix" and reported that his problems with TS4 are gone too. can u explain exacly what im meant because im not sure
