Story Mode- Only For New Saves?

Ok, so I am trying to create a new family using the new story mode and it seems that I can only do it in a new save, not in my existing save. Is this intentional? I like to only have one save on the go so don't want to open a new one. Any ideas?

    @ayaya87 You have the story mode if you click on Add Sim. You can there choose to add one via story mode. It's just not triggered from start like when you start a new save.
