try opening the task manager and force close Origin that way. Then restart and try if it works nevertheless. If not, hit the repair game option which you get by right-clicking on the game in Origin.
Mine was stuck in the Direct X setup step. To solve it I simply had to open Task Manager and force close the process DXSETUP.exe.
After closing it you will see a few processes like vs_dist and dllhost.exe pop up. This means that now the update is not stuck anymore.
My took like 5 min after closing DXSETUP and it worked, asking me to reboot my pc to complete the update.
Hope it helps.

Either type task manager in search or press ctrl - alt - delete and select task manager or rightclick the taskbar and select task manager.
For Windows: Right-click the taskbar and select Start Task Manager.
For Mac: Press Command + Space Bar to get the Spotlight search field. Type 'Activity Monitor'. Select the Activity Monitor when it comes up. This will take you to the app.For the Mac Task Manager, I had to do some research.
Hope it works,
Rose
