Hi there! Different player than who originally posted but I was having the same issue. I tried this and now all my saves are gone. I'm new to the game so I probably just messed something up. (The second method)
@c8in As the directions mentioned, renaming or moving your "The Sims 4" folder will force the game to create a new user folder with none of your saves in it. They're not gone, they're just not accessible while in a different folder than the one Sims 4 is reading. As long as you still have the original files, you're fine.
In the interim, does your game work now? If not, what happens when you try to play? Please let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit, and we can go from there. If the game is still crashing, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@roberta591 I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. The new player's issue has nothing to do with what client they use to launch the game; Origin is still perfectly viable in Windows for most of us; and the original poster you tagged created this thread in 2018.
Also, Macs run macOS. The iOS operating system runs on iPhones.
