The Sims 4 "Not Responding" when trying to load family
Hello fellow Sims 4 Players,
So, I seem to be having an issue with my Sims 4 game. For some reason, I cannot load my family. It was working fine and then it suddenly crashed. When I went to play my family again, it'd says "Not Responding" on the loading screen! I've tried a few different things (but to no avail) including:
- Restarting Sims 4
- Running Origin as Admin and repairing sims 4
- Removing the .save of my family and trying to load .ver0 then .ver1 as my main save
- Updated my graphic card drivers
- Ran all updates on my PC including updating the .NET Framework
- Disabled Origin in game
- Reset the game to factory settings without reinstalling
- Removing all files in the Tray folder
- Turning off my virus protection and firewall completely
- Giving permission to Origin and The Sims 4 in my firewall and virus protection
- Moved my family to a different lot and tried to start play in a new lot
HOWEVER! I did try creating a new save file (just made someone and named them Test Bot and moved them into a random lot) and that save file worked fine. I am going to be completely shattered if this save file is dead. ☹️ I could really use some help because I desperately want to play as my sim again and not lose all the work I've put into ti for the last 2 weeks. I bought this laptop specifically to play The Sims 4 on. >.>
- I am on a Windows PC
- I bought the games legit through Origin
- I am not using any form of Mods or Custom Content
- I have all expansions of the game
- I have all game packs except Jungle Adventure
- I have all stuff packs except Fitness Stuff, Bowling Night stuff, Vintage Glamour stuff, Spooky stuff, Perfect Patio stuff, and Luxury Party stuff
- I have all the free stuff

Yeah I only have my one family in the apartments lol. Just her and her 2 cats. >.> I do not see any lastCrash.txt files. I see lastException text files. I have 5 of those it seems. Also, the issue happened every time I clicked that family. I would click her in her apartment, click play, and then during the plumbob load screen it would spin for maybe 5 seconds then stop and the game would go to Not Responding. And this is every time I tried to load my game and play my family.
Also, I am going to chalk this up as user error. While waiting for your reply, I attempted a second resetting the game to factory settings without reinstalling. Took everything out, slowly added stuff one by one. I added just the .sav of my game and it actually ran the saved family! Then I added all my save files in the folder and the save file still ran. I wanted to know the reason why it wasn't working, so I readded the Tray folder too. Still worked. I readded option.ini and the game still ran. I don't have any form of mods or custom content, so I never readded anything else. Is there anything else I have to add back to my game folder that's new? I might have done it incorrectly the first time. I'm only human after all. ^^;
So, to recap!
Solution: Doing a second resetting the game to factory settings without reinstalling worked! I only re added my .sav file, my Tray folder, and options.ini and my game is still running smoothly once more.
