Trying to play through Steam

So I bought Sims 4 on Steam long before it went free on the EA app. For a while, it worked great. Recently I decided to boot up Sims 4 again on Steam, but I keep getting this issue where the EA app will open and it says it cannot launch. Telling me to cancel the active download but there isnt one. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache, linked and unlinked accounts Run the error checker and nothing was working.

I'd prefer to just run it through Steam, but currently it only works on the EA app. Is there a fix for this?

  • @Limbguine  Are your Steam and EA accounts currently linked properly?  Even if you think they are, please try to login to an EA site (this one is fine) with your Steam credentials.  If you land in the correct EA account, great; if anything else happens, let me know.

Please also sign out of both Steam and the EA App and sign in again using the accounts that are linked to each other, just in case you accidentally signed into a different account.  (I've seen it happen before.)

If that doesn't help and your accounts are linked to each other, please uninstall the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), using the Intensive scanning method.  Restart your computer, reinstall the App, and open it on its own before you try to launch Sims 4.

You need to uninstall Sims 4 from the EA app. then reinstall only the packs not the base game. You should now be able to play from Steam.
