TS4 only goes to title screen and then crashes

After the last big update (7/23/24) my Sims 4 game does not open properly. What happens is that when I open the Sims in either Steam or the EA app, it only goes to the title screen and then closes it...

@Roxie533  The graphics driver appears to be installed correctly, but there are new VC++ errors and some other system errors that should be addressed.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

  • Hit Windows key-X
  • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
  • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
  • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
  • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
  • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
  • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
  • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

For Sims 4 itself, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

@puzzlezaddict So when I copied and pasted the first thing into the Windows terminal, it said:
error: 740
elevated permissions are required to run DISM.
Use an elevated command prompt to complete these tasks.

As for Sims 4, i created a clean folder and was able to create a new game and play in live mode,

    @Roxie533  The error 740 is because you opened the regular version of the terminal, not the one with (Admin) in its name.  That's what the message means: it needs elevated, i.e. admin, permissions to run.

    Since the new save in the clean folder works, the Sims 4 issue is caused by something in your old folder.  If you have mods and custom content, start there.  This is a list of mods and cc known to be broken after the most recent patches:

    For anything not on that list, you'll need to test yourself.  If you have a lot of files to sort through, the 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient:

    Once you've done that, you can move over the contents of save, Tray (saved households and builds), Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those, and UserSetting.ini for the login rewards.  The rest can be discarded.

      @puzzlezaddict Thank you for all the help; I really do appreciate it. My Sims is now playable, and all my saves are still there.

      I also was able to do that thing in Windows Terminal. You asked for the message I received, so this is it:

      Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
      For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
      windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
      repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

        @Roxie533  That's great to hear, and please let me know if you need any more help.  The message you've posted means sfc did its job and no further action is required on that front.
