Unable to play/repair/download Sims 4

This has been an ongoing issue since July. Sometimes it fixes itself but then other days it reverts to this same issue. I posted previously about this issue but had no feedback that solved it.

Product: The Sims 4
Platform: PC - EA App
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Some days it works fine after repair, but when it can't be repaired it occours 100%
What is your current game version number? I'm not sure of the number but it's the most recent update version.
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Vampires, Spooky Stuff, Romantic Garden, Holiday Celebration, Get to Work, Get Famous, Cottage Living, Cats and Dogs, Blooming Rooms, Life of the Party, Up All Night
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to play, repair or redownload game
What happens when the bug occurs? It says it can't find the folder my game is in, even though I can easily access it in my file explorer. It is in my :D Drive.
What do you expect to see? The game repairing or playing correctly.

Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes, I have some clothing mods. I used to have custom script mods but since deleted them
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? I think it was one of the July updates
Please describe the patch or change you made. I made no change other than update in July.

I think I've found the root of the problem... it's a hardware issue.

I had my gf take a look at my PC and it seems my D drive is failing. It's started crashing and reloading more often, which could be why it wouldn't allow me to update TS4.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it :-)

Seems like I need a new PC :-(

  • @pickapon  Please post a screenshot of the error you're seeing.  Please also let me know what antivirus you use and whether you've set any exceptions for Sims 4 or the EA App.

I've taken a screenshot from my previous post to demonstrate the error. I use Bitdefender antivirus but I'm unsure whether to see if there's expections for Sims 4 or not

@pickapon  This error is antivirus-related, as far as I've seen, so that's the first place to look.  Here's how to set exclusions:

    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13427/

You'd want to exclude TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64; or the entire folder they're in.  It's also worth adding an exception for EADesktop.exe.  You may need to repair Sims 4 with Bitdefender temporarily disabled before the game-related executables appear.

Just had a look and that's not fixed the problem unfortunately. I'm unable to update to the latest version of Sims 4 either

@pickapon  So you can't repair Sims 4 with Bitdefender compltely disabled?  If so, please uninstall it (if it's not currently installed), create a new folder for Sims 4, and try installing there, with Bitdefender still disabled.  The folder should be on the root level of the drive of your choice, for example C:\Games is fine, but not C:\Program Files\Games.  Here again, as long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe, and you can reenable Bitdefender after you test the game.

Repairing or reinstalling would automatically give you the newest version of Sims 4; no need to update after that.

@pickapon  You don't necessarily need a whole new PC.  A secondary drive is simple to replace, and it's pretty much painless other than the work it takes to preserve your data.  Even laptop drives can be swapped out with little more than a screwdriver.

  • I have experienced a similar issue I have gotten to the point where I am not going to play any more games on my PC. I’m fed up with two different servers or apps having to share their data. I’m also fed up with the fact that I have spent so much money on digital download packs for everything to not work. It will not find my game file. I have tried to restore or repair, re-download it(game file) watched every youtube tutorial on fixing it to work, clearing the cache, reinstall the game, even made a copy or backup file for game, uninstalled the EA app and uninstalled the steam app. Then reinstalled both to pc again, restarted computer several times. I’m to the point where they need to make games available on disc versions again because I am fed up with all of it. I will not buy Sims five and I will not buy any other game if this is what is going to continue to happen why should I as a consumer have to have two different apps on my computer to run one game  And half the time it doesn’t even run.  Been playing sims since sims 1, I have even made my antivirus software exclude both. running both EA app and the steam app. I’m beyond frustrated im steaming mad EA and Steam catch my drift?
