Unknown Failure

I have already lost all my saves and Uninstalled and reinstalled rhe entire game and packs. (I did a backup file, but I beleive it was deleted in the cleaning of residual files accidently)

960 hours of saves lost.

The parenthood pack has many items that will not place in build mode. When I attempt to, I receive an "unknown failure" pop-up in red OR "object footprint resource is missing" pop-up.

Anyone have this issue? Have you fixed it?

Windows 11.

  • @SativaSunshinee  Please uninstall and reinstall only the Parenthood pack.  It has its own folder in [install location]\The Sims 4, here by default:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 4

Parenthood is GP05.  You can simply delete the folder.

If that doesn't help, please list the items you're having trouble with, or at least a few of them, if it's not every item from the pack.  Please also include screenshots of the two errors, for reference—if this turns out to be a Steam or EA side issue, screenshots may help the investigation.

  • Hi @SativaSunshinee Do you use OneDrive or a similar syncing program? If so, you'll need to set it to NOT sync your Documents > Electronic Arts folder, which might help with some issues.

I'd also suggest, since you already reinstalled, refreshing that game folder as well. Exit Sims 4 then drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop. Launch Sims 4 and set up your Options, then start New Game to see if you still have issues.

I did what you said, starting with a fresh save and I'm still getting unknown failure messages.

Okay. Now that you've done that, I know you already reinstalled, but try a Game Repair to see if it solves your issue, in case something went wrong during the installation. (Still with just the new folder - not your mods/CC or older saves).

I verified the game files using steam and it still says unknown failure on select items from the parenthood pack. This is the only pack I am seemingly having issues with. 😐

Could you try uninstalling and reinstalling the EA App? I wonder if there isn't an issue syncing between that and Steam. Also, are you on a PC or a Mac? I might move you over to Technical Issues.

Thanks. I'm going to move you over to PC Technical Issues for now. Hopefully, they know more about this issue.
