What are the best game settings for my pc build?

Ever since TS4 came out I've ran it on ultra settings, but my computer is starting to get older and wasn't the greatest in the first place (It's about 5 years old and has never been upgraded). It feels like my game skips, or rather pauses sometimes like how TS3 did when you load a lot of packs and cc. These are my current settings, and the parts I have for my PC:

AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor

8GB ram

some WD black 7200 rpm 500gb hdd

I don't want to play my game on the lowest of settings. I can deal with blocky, blurry sims, but I like to keep my render distance and objects well defined with shadows. I also try to stay in smaller worlds, smaller lots, smaller houses to help with the lag/skipping, but it doesn't seem to work as much as it used to. Even a detailed description of what each setting does when lowered would be helpful. Like high reflections vs low/off is basically seeing a duplicate of your sim in a mirror vs a blur/not at all. I would also like to know what laptop mode does, I don't notice a visual difference or really anything at all with it checked or not. I also wonder if any of the audio settings or "other settings" effect gameplay smoothness -- I've played games where SFX sounds caused a drastic FPS drop.

I don't use any CC or mods. I also constantly weed out my old saves, videos, screenshots, and cache.

  • @hwyle It's impossible to say, it completely depends on your computer type/model and video card setup.

Go check out Carl's Guides on Youtube. He has a very good video explaining the Graphics Options:
