Why cant i create a new game

My game (the sims 4) was working fine the first few days but then it suddenly stopped working. By that, i mean, the game will open but if i try to make a new game, my screen will go completely white and will not load at all. And once it's on the white screen, the game wont close, i have to shut down my computer and open it again for it to be gone. I had a game before this but i deleted that before i realized that i couldn't make a new one. What do i do and how do i fix it? I tried redownloading the game with the patched update, tried clearing my cache, both of which someone from ea has told me to try and nothing has worked. I'm lost.

  • @gabyxlol  If you use any mods or custom content at all, please move the Mods folder to the desktop and delete localthumbcache.package.  You don't need to save your progress; this is just for testing.

If that doesn't help, or you don't use mods or cc, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get through CAS and into live mode.

If that doesn't help either, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@gabyxlol  The fact that the game works in a clean folder means that the problem is something in your old folder, and you'll need to find out what.  Start here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mods-CC-Issues/CAS-infinite-loading-screen-after-23-07-update/m-p/13898929#M64494

For anything not covered in that thread, please see this list of mods known to be broken in general:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mods-CC-Issues/Broken-Obsolete-and-Updated-Sims-4-Mods-1-108-July-23-2024-Game/td-p/13891143

You'll need to test anything else you want to use that's not on one of the lists, and discard the mods that stop the game from working again.

Once you've done that, you can transfer the files in saves, Tray (saved households and builds), Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those, plus the UserSetting.ini file for the login rewards.  The rest can be discarded.

Sorry, i've been really busy recently and haven't been able to respond. I've deleted what mods i thought were the problem, but when you say transfer the files, where do i transfer them?

@gabyxlol  If you moved the Sims 4 folder to the desktop and let the game create a new one, that means all your previous content is still in the folder on the desktop.  You can transfer the files I listed from that folder to the new Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.
