At least you, DancingDan, could find your answer on the official The Sims 4 FAQ:
I. I'm in the dark. They havn't made a release statement about Linux. My Ubuntu installation hungers for some native The Sims 4 installation.
We could ofc. ponder the implications of a situation where developers had to mention what operating systems they weren't releasing on. I can already imagine it. I can already imagine the packageing:
I'm not a EA Fan any more. I'm going to be a 2K Fan since they are customer friendly to both PS4 & XBox1.
EA JUST DOESN'T CARE ABOUT MAC USERS AT ALL.

So because EA hasn't released The Sims 4 on Mac you are now a fan of 2K because they publish games on Playstation and Xbox...How does that even make sence?
Also, notice I just have the Hero title in here, I don't work for EA if that's what you are thinking.

That's not it. I'm Tired of EA don't give MAC Users.
I was a fan of the First 3 Sims games but when I found out that we MAC users won't get the WORLD TOOL ON MACS. NOW NO COMMENT or Acting they care about MACs when we MAC Users knows it's hog wash.
I'm just putting my feelings into this thread. Since EA doesn't care about MAC Users at all.

There's a difference between "don't care" and "it financially doesn't make any sence to do it" or "we simply don't have the resources to do it"
Anyways, if you want to play The Sims 4 using a mac you can always use Bootcamp. This is a one of the many guides out there:
