Will This Laptop Run Sims 3 &/Or 4

looking into possibly buying a laptop but i need to know if it will play either 3 or 4 (hopefully both).
My main concern is the CPU speed since that according to the "can i run it" site is the issue with my current desktop
if the laptop isn't compatible what would happen if i do try & play either one?

& it's weird "can i run it" doesn't bring up my cpu speed for sims 4 but it does for 3

& i assume with 4 being the newer game if i can't run 3 i shouldn't be able to run 4

Possible Laptop Current Desktop

Microprocessor:
Intel® Pentium® Silver N5000 (1.1 GHz base frequency, up to 2.7 GHz burst frequency, 4 MB cache, 4 cores)
AMD E-300 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
1.3 GHz CPU

the base / burst & cores i don't understand

Memory, standard:
4 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB)
4 GB

Video graphics:

Intel® UHD Graphics 605
AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics

Hard drive:

500 GB 5400 rpm SATA
270 GB

any help is greatly appreciated 👍

  • @leeki2019  No, this laptop isn't a good option for either game.  It's below the requirements for Sims 4, although it might run the base game and some older packs on the lowest settings, or maybe the Legacy Edition if the standard version wasn't working.  Although the laptop's specs are technically above the posted minimum for Sims 3, which haven't been updated since 2009, I doubt it would run the fully patched base game at all.

As for what would happen if you tried to play, the games might just crash all the time, or maybe not even start at all.  Or, in the worst case, you could damage the computer from overheating.  Laptops like the one listed aren't built for even moderately demanding games like TS3 and TS4, and that includes the cooling apparatus.  But no matter how exactly it went, I very much doubt you'd have a good experience trying to play either game on a system with these specs.

A modern processor normally has a base frequency, at which it runs during normal use, and a turbo or burst frequency for more demanding tasks.  The distinction is that CPUs with turbo can typically maintain that speed for as long as necessary, whereas CPUs with "burst" usually can only sustain the higher speed for short stretches.

Processors have multiple cores that can handle separate tasks simultaneously, and each core can process data at the listed frequencies.  So a quad-core CPU can handle twice as much data at the same speed as a dual-core with the same listed frequency.  However, that doesn't mean that a quad core is always twice as good, since some tasks (including Sims 3) will only run on one or two cores no matter how many your CPU has.  So the raw speed will still matter in addition to the number of cores.

If you post your budget and country, I can try to find you some better options.  Sims 4 is actually easier to shop for than Sims 3 because TS4 runs better on lower-end systems.  But a laptop that would run even just TS4 is going to be in a higher class than the one you listed, and likely more expensive.  So I'm not sure how good the options will be in this price range.

By the way, "can I run it" sites are notoriously inaccurate when it comes to Sims games.  At best, they completely ignore the impact of expansion packs; at worst, they don't even factor in the patches that have made the base game more demanding.  I would never trust the evaluation of a site like that.
