Every time I go to play with any of the houses on the little island in Windenburg, whether it be trying to play with a family or build mode, the game keeps not responding. The rest of that map works ...

Here it is, I do not use any mods in my game and haven't changed anything on my computer or to the game in between when it worked and did not.
Your graphics card driver could use an update:
