Hypothetically even if they hadn't yet written one line of code, there's no reason they can't at least be forthcoming with those two pieces of information. Unless they honestly don't know, in which case the entire project is in bad shape.
I agree, they could still show concept art and share their ideas, we don't even know what the sims will look like. It doesn't have to be a working build, concept art and ideas are just fine for me.
