The Sims 3 was the first to include free updates/patches, which was a great way to update the game engine and add in some cool features, while the earlier The Sims 2 patches just fixed bugs as much as EA/The Sims Team could solve at the time, and the rest were later fixed by modders themselves or just abandoned/forgotten.
The Sims 4 was the first to update/patch up the game with super-cool new features. I mean, I now see that chemistry set in my Sims 4 game that was previously mentioned in the Snowy Escape walk-through video. Wow, this time around, The Sims Team has offered that one FOR FREE! Back in the Sims 3 days, newly EA-released free content was published on The Sims 3 Store, and in The Sims 2 days, they would be offered up on the Exchange. Nowadays, it's all bundled up in a patch, so everyone gets one when they load up The Sims 4. Yea!!!
