Sims Medieval won't open

I've had a physical copy of "The Sims Medieval" for over a decade now, and previously, it ran just fine on my desktop PC. I stepped away from it for a while, stopped playing, but when I found "Pirates and Nobles", I downloaded it and tried to boot up the base game, but it refuses to open now. I've tried everything to get it to run, but it won't, it just sits at my desktop homepage, and doesn't show it running at all in Task Manager. I did a full uninstall-reinstall, and it didn't work, it still won't open. My PC is running Windows 8, if that at all helps. If anyone's got any words of wisdom, that'd be appreciated!

  • I don't know what your computer specs are with you running Windows 8. I have a next gen running Windows 11. I couldn't play the sims medieval for years, then I found this and I was so happy when it worked. I've been playing it for almost 2 days now.

  • It's a long story, I have an HP from 2015 my local tech guy did some voodoo on to dial it back to Windows 8 so I could still run older programs and games, he did it when he was tuning it up for me a while back. When he did that, "Sims Medieval" ran fine, but when I tried to install "Pirates and Nobles", it refuses to open, as I explained previously. The EA App workaround is interesting to me, but I'm curious: Does it include the "Pirates and Nobles" expansion material?

Thank you, it worked for me better than contacting EA support <3

I have the Pirates and Nobles expansion and it works.

Edit: Also everything is and was already installed in the EA app. The base game and the expansion are the digital version. I got rid of all my game's physical disks years ago.

I also was experiencing a lot of crashes using the 1 cpu option setting. After clicking, (selecting) the 3 cpu instead of the 1 cpu the crashes are a lot less but on long play sessions it'll still crash.

I also noticed sims getting stuck underground with the testing cheats enabled even though I never used moveobjects, so I had to turn that cheat setting back to zero in the ini folder.

Hmmm, interesting...I hate to have to buy the games all over again, I admit, but hey, if it gives me a chance to play, I'll give it a shot! Thanks!
