Considering the Sims tries to be available to a variety of systems/customers, from semi-low end computers to top of the line zoomputers, it seems that open lot is this best option for smooth game play no matter how many rams. I've mostly played on a gaming laptops and Sims 3 with a couple of packs killed at least 1 of them, so I am more for open lot.
