I'm not planning on buying either game. Due to the increased focus on wokeness and pandering, it can be difficult to find a good game that doesn't do that and focuses on making the life simulator as fun as possible. Most gaming companies nowadays don't focus on quality. No amount of good graphics, environmental/clothing design, or worlds can make up for empty, boring gameplay.
As for indie developers, I feel like they could go down the slippery slope of pandering if they become as relevant as a big-name gaming company. They sometimes give up on their projects, or overlook the problems in their games. I wouldn't buy any game at launch after EA/Maxis disappointed me several times. Same for games from other big-name companies.
At the moment, I'll stick with Sims 3 and Sims 4, and make time for hobbies other than gaming.
