Low Disk Space When Installing The Sims 2 on Windows 10

Heya,

My friend recently had this issue, where TS2 would install on his computer, but then complain about "low disk space" when trying to run, causing it to not generate any user files. I tried to help with all sorts of compatibility settings etc, keep in mind this is the disk version. In the end he uninstalled it. I decided I wanted to go back to TS2, and installed my copy of TS2:UC on Origin.

It ran once, and then I closed it, and then got this message when launching again. It just says "There's not enough space on your hard disk, the game may not function correctly. Do you want to launch the game?" (Apologies it's in French lol.) So essentially the same thing. Keep in mind there's more than enough space in here and installing to D: didn't help either. I've also done regedit to delete the TM symbol in the display name. This is so frustrating, I'm imagining it's to do with TS2's SecuROM DRM security again and Windows not supporting it anymore, and also possibly a compatibility issue causing the game to read disk space incorrectly. Whatever it is, has anyone found a fix that like, isn't those things? Or is TS2 just completely unplayable on Windows 10 now? Sucks, because quarantine is so boring and I was hoping to go back to playing it. 😞 I'm not really in favour of downloading the SecuROM fix+Nodisk patch either... Also almost none of my user files generated except for the first world and that's it. Argh!!

Also feel free to merge this with another thread, or direct me to another thread if this has been posted recently before.

(Btw I did repair the game via Origin and no luck, no CC or mods or anything, completely fresh install.)

Thanks!

  • @suprrk , first of all have you recently run the Disk Utilites included with most any version of Windows? Those can help. Secondly, since you are running the game from Origin, it automatically had the SecuRom files removed as the game was running off of Origin and that was serving as the copyright protection. You do not need to remove any files with the game.

It sounds like your Virtual Memory is running out of space and you need to increase the size of it to the same size as your RAM. You can access this information from right clicking on your Start tab and then locating the Systems information in the menu that comes up. You should probably look up exact directions on how to do this via a Google search, but it appears that not only Sims 2 is affected by this, but many other games as well.

Please let me know if this helps.
