This question is pretty old, but for other people that may have this same question, sims 2 does not have any story progression so if you want sims outside of your current household to do anything -- like get married, have kids, die in a fatal pool ladder accident -- you have to play as that family and make it happen yourself. I don't know if there are any mods for story progession like in the sims 3 but I am sure a quick google search will help you out 🤞
There is no story progression (mod or otherwise) for Sims 2 to my knowledge. You are your own story progression. The only event I know of which came with later expansions was that if your child/teen was friends with townie children/teens, the option to age them up came when your sim child/teen had a birthday. This did not apply to player created/played households.
