Project Rene Idea - Sims Aware Of Us

One thing I noticed that I feel is somewhat missing from the sims 4 that I would love to see incorporated in an update. but I don’t expect it but think it would be a missed opportunity to not put in the next sims game. the attachment we feel as players to the sims. And by that I mean in the sims 1 and the sims 2 I really felt connected to them, and a part of their lives. Why? Because not only was I aware of them, but they seemed aware of me as the player too, the one in the sky making things happen or influencing their decisions.

I remember in the sims 2 this was especially a feature players loved. It made them seem less A.I and robotic and like they actually cared about their lives due to our control. It made their lives to them and us seem more meaningful.

Because they seemed aware that there was more to their lives than what they deal with in their own sim world, they were aware of their creator in a sense and made them feel more alive and connected to us when we influenced their decisions or made things happen.

I remember sometimes even feeling a sense of guilt if I told my sim to marry so and so and they we”re not the committed type. Or made them do something they clearly didn’t want.

They would look at the screen and whine a bit and frown or even stomp a bit. Like really, I have to do that? Lol. Or if I told them to ask so and so out and they we”re attracted to that sim, I remember sometimes they would look at the screen and get all giddy for a second or even clap with a big grin on their face.

If they hated an enemy and I influenced a mean or mischievous interaction they would look at the screen with a deviant grin before doing it.
Or if they made another sim cry they would look angry at the sim but then look at the screen with a wide eyed look like hmm maybe I shouldn’t have made them cry.

The would wave at the sky when they felt like their needs were not being met, the would get excited or joyful with us when they were happy about what we were telling them to do or making happen in their life. And I remember feeling a sense of joy knowing I was making them happy and they we”re in a sense crediting me for it.

I have racked my brain trying to figure out what made the sims 1 and the sims 2 feel more intelligent, because honestly the sims 4 are now intelligent in ways they we’re not at launch, multi tasking is a big plus for them, but their have been updates that have made them feel more alive, but I still can’t help but feel something has still been missing and I think I recognize now that this is it.

And although I’d love to see a big update of this in the sims 4, I feel the sims 5 sims should have awareness of us.

Even it’s more subtle, I think it would make a huge difference in the sims feeling like actual people and like their lives had more meaning, versus just feeling like A.I bots. Because that’s what makes A.I feel not so A.I is when they suddenly seem aware of themselves and us.

And while Im not saying the sims should be this “real intelligent A.I, because with the sims I think that could be a mistake if the sims are too smart and don’t listen to us at all, I do think just giving the allusion as how the sims 2 and the sims 1 did it, would give it that magic that has seem to be somewhat missing since the sims 3.

I want my sims to feel more alive again, and I really think this is they key component to that, that has been missing.

so I hope the people working in project Rene will read this and consider it, I hope to hear that this will be a feature that is brought back to the sims I think you would make a lot of simmers very happy.

I enjoy TS1 and TS2 very very very much! Although open world in TS3 is also nice, if TS5 will be as playful as TS1&2, I don't mind no open world in TS5. But, if TS5 will be as boring as TS3&4, I will be very very very very disapointment!

All of this, yes! Consequences! Show, don't tell!
  • This is only one reason I enjoy TS2 more than the others. Because I wasn't playing simself (ever) I was running the lives of Sims in a game. Once Maxis decided to move away from a god game to a Simself /avatar game I lost all interest in the series' future.

It was more enjoyable to me for Sims to give me a thumbs up if they liked what had just happened and or frown and whine at me if they weren't in the mood to watch TV or whatever. Also, to tell me in a popup 'can't you see I'm too depressed to do that (skill grinding)'.

I wasn't the Sim, and some Sims were smarter and interacted with the camera more than others. I won't ever forget when Mr. Big in TS2 walked into one of my community lots turned off the TV and turned to look at camera and winked at me. I was annoyed because my Sims were watching that TV but he obviously felt there were better things to do there. lol

And to ask me if they should take that job. I was in control. Aware of someone in control because can you imagine asking yourself if you should take a job offer? lol Maxis lost me the moment they no longer consider the game a god game.
  • I remember some starving Sims waving to me when I first played the game. I thought that they was waving to their neighbours...
