Re: Running the sims 2 on windows 10

@katsimming , I found a better video to watch on YouTube by xUrbansimsx. She goes step by step on how to install the game and what you need to make the game work. Even if you have to start and stop the video multiple times, it's worth the watch. However, I am going to tell you a few things you need before you download the game either from the disks or from Origin. You will need to download a program called Graphics Rule Maker (Google search for it) to update the game to recognize your graphics card. Any problems with this or questions on how to use it, go to Leefish's forum (Google search that too). And to increase the resolution, you will again need to manually edit the Graphics Rule.sgr file.

If you would rather have your own version of Sims 2 from the disks there are ways to install them that work.

I downloaded graphic rules maker before and it didn’t help with anything. What should I have all the settings set to? And can you link the other urbansims video please?

Check out Leefish's forum for more information on Graphics Rule Maker. I'm afraid I can't link to either the video or the forum.

I downloaded graphics rule maker again and tried it but now I can’t even launch the game.  I just get this message

failed to find any directX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have directX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate.

could it be a problem with the settings I used for graphics rule maker? I followed XUrbansimsX video or could their just be a problem with my computer? I know nothing about computers so sorry if this is a stupid question.

@katsimming , the Graphics Ruler Maker helps solve that issue. You need to make sure the game recognizes your type of graphics card which is what this program does. As computers have updated their processors and graphics cards, the Sims 2 was made well before many of these newer cards were made. Graphics Rule Maker adds your type of card to Graphics Rule.sgr (the file in the game that recognizes which cards are which).

Do you happen to know which type of graphics card you have?

I never got that error until I downloaded graphics rule maker that’s why I’m wondering if I need to adjust the settings but I don’t want to mess it up even more.

I’m not sure what type of graphics card I have, is there a way of checking?

@katsimming , here is how you locate what kind of graphics card your computer has. You will need this information to make sure the game recognizes your graphics card.

To check the graphics card on Windows 10 with System Information, use these steps:
    1. Open Start.
    2. Search for System Information and click the top result to open the tool.
    3. Expand the Components branch.
    4. Click on Display.
    5. Under the "Adapter Description" field, determine the graphics card installed on your device.

    AMD Radeon(TM) R4 Graphics

I’m absolutely clueless what this means and what I’m supposed to do from here lol.

@katsimming , ok, go to Leefish's forum and check to see if your graphics card is included the current make up of Graphics Rule Maker. Since you now know what kind of graphics card you have, you can check to see if it is included or need to add it. You'll need to Google search to find the link to Leefish's forum. There are also instructions on how to use Graphic Rule Maker there too.
