@BunniesAreCuteDo you get an error? Go to your latest pack folder (I'm guessing Mansion & Garden Stuff if you have Ultimate Collection; C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\TSData\Res\Config) and see if files were modified.

I would also recommending checking VirtualStore for any leftover files, since Sims 2 files often end up there; an older GraphicsRules.sgr might be there.
Press Win + R and type in %appdata%. You'll end in AppData\Roaming, so go one folder back. Then go to Local\VirtualStore, and you'll see program files folders. Look for Sims 2 files in there (AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\) and delete any folders related to it, especially if you find a Graphics Rules file.

  • @BunniesAreCute , are you sure you edited it? Simply running Graphics Rule maker does not edit all the lines of code that need to be edited to run the game. There are some additional lines that you will need to edit by hand.

My other bit of advise is to go to YouTube and to find videos on how to get Sims 2 to run on Windows 10. Follow those videos, step by step. It is possible to get the game to run, you just need to be patient and to sometimes dig a little deeper into where files may be that are preventing the game from running properly.

  • @mate54 I didn't get an error, GRM claimed that it worked. I just looked in VirtualStore, and the only files there are for The Sims 3 Create-a-World.

@BunniesAreCute When you edited GraphicsRules.sgr yourself, did it maybe save as .txt file? Usually Notepad can't save files when you modify them in installation folders.

@BunniesAreCute , even if you run Graphics Rule Maker to add your graphics card information, there are still lines of code that Graphics Rule Maker does not edit that must be edited to increase your resolution. Because of forum rules, I cannot link directly to the site that give you step by step instructions exactly on how to fix the lines of code that must be edited in order to fix your resolution. If you do a Google search on "Sims 2 Resolution" you will find not only the site I mentioned, but several YouTube videos on how to do the exact same thing.

@mate54 , just as an FYI, the only thing Graphics Rule Maker does is edit the Graphics Rule.sgr to add the video card. You have to manually edit the lines of code that will then increase resolution. 🙂

@Tremayne4260GRM is actually able to add higher resolutions, there is a setting for default and maximum resolution which you can change. There are some other options as well, to disable shadows (due to the black box issue), to enable high quality on Intel Graphics as well as settings that take care of the purple soup issue. I never had to edit my files manually, GRM did everything for me. Not sure why it doesn't work for OP, though.

@BunniesAreCute  Do you have any of these games installed: The Sims Life Stories, The Sims Pet Stories, The Sims Castaway Stories, or SimCity 4? GRM also supports those, so it might have edited their files, instead of editing the ones for TS2.

@BunniesAreCute , there is no need to be rude here. I am only trying to help you and you have said nothing about having researched this issue. I am simply pointing out ways to help you.

@mate54 , then someone must have updated Graphics Rule Maker since I last used it. It only supported Sims 2 and I think Sim City 4. 🙂

@BunniesAreCute When it comes to 3rd party programs/fixes, they cannot be linked here. And, obviously, when someone tries to help with an issue that everyone has and requires another program, they suggest the most common solutions, like "Google the resolution fix, look for GRM, Run GRM as Admin, Make sure that it's set to the latest pack, check the GraphicsRules file extension, etc." Unfortunately, I don't know what else could be causing your issue, and since I can't reproduce it, it's harder to troubleshoot.
  • @BunniesAreCute , One other thing to try is to make sure that you have a copy of the "new" edited Graphics Rule.sgr and add it to each expansion and stuff pack within the game. While the instructions only say to edit the Mansions and Gardens game files, I did it to all the Expansions, Stuff packs and Base game to be sure it ran.

@BunniesAreCute , just trying to recap what's been done so far.

    1) Ran Graphics Rule Maker to update Graphics Rule.sgr. Did you also update the Video Cards.sgr file too? Just asking so we can cross it off the list of things to try.

    2) Made sure the lines of code pertaining specifically to resolution were updated.

    3) When updating Graphics Rule.sgr, made sure it was specifically for Sims 2.

    4) Have added updated Graphics Rule.sgr to all EPs/SPs.

    5) No new mods were added to game that might affect resolution or graphics.

Is there anything I've missed? As I said just trying to recap what's been tried so far and to think of other things to try.
