Re: Sims Medieval cannot Save Game Error Code 18

Hi @PoloHunkerton,

It might be some kind of file corruption that is making impossible to save. Let's try this:

  1. With the game closed, go to Documents \ Electronic Arts
  2. Rename The Sims Medieval folder. You can name it The Sims Medieval error 18, for example.
  3. Open your game. This will make the game create a clean user files folder. Start a new game and try to save.

Can you save now?

If you can save, then:

  1. Close the game
  2. Go to The Sims Medieval error 18 and copy the contents on saves folder.
  3. Go to the new The Sims Medieval folder and paste the saves you have just copied to the saves folder.
  4. Run the game and try to save again now

Good luck,

Mai

  • Hello. I'm back in the game (after over a year long hiatus!). I had uninstalled Sims Medieval and also Origin. I just reinstalled Origin and Sims Medieval. The same Error Code 18 and inability to save occurs.

I tried to rename the folder as you advised (although, the folder was located at > Program Files (x86) > Origin Games > The Sims Medieval). What happened next was, Origin got me to download the game again — which I did. But still the same error message.

I tried started a new Kingdom, but this wouldn't save either. I hope you can help.

    Hi @PoloHunkerton,

    Welcome back!

The game stores two folders in your computer:
    1) Program Files (x86) > Origin Games > The Sims Medieval
    2) Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims Medieval

First folder is where the game installation files are stored and if removed, Origin won't be able to find the game and it will ask you to install it again.

Second folder is where your user files are stored, with your save games, Screenshots, etc.

Did you keep your save games when you uninstalled the game? Do you see your old save games when you open the game?

    Thanks,
    -Mai
  • Thank you for the clarification!

My confusion was with the save files in the second folder. I followed your instructions and now it is fixed!

I am getting this now, after installing pirates and nobles. Done as instructed here and no joy.
Also repaired the game and again, no different 😕

Never had the problem in all the years with the game.

i didn't see it until now, but it's irrelevant really as that was done before i played my 1st and only game.  😓

The first part of what you guys did, DID work for me, but then when doing 2nd part - nothing
    Repairing game - nothing
Clearing cache (deleting all 3 packages) nothing
    Uninstalling and reinstalling - nothing

EA's answer (Which I have not accepted)
"It's a browser game now, not supported on a server - take a free game instead"

    😬

@LisaLadybirD82 , actually try clearing the Cache files. Do this each time before you play. Sims Medieval shares a similar game architecture with Sims 3 and if you have played Sims 3, clearing the Cache files clears the game of things that can cause the game to become corrupt.

@LisaLadybirD82  Are you still having problems? Could you make a new thread describing them? I think this thread may get closed since it is a little old.

    Same old same old.
Ea told me to post in this thread, as it's not their problem anymore 😓

@LisaLadybirD82  Okay, I just meant a new thread in this section, since one of the rules of this player help player forum is to not necro old threads. But if you want help, I can try. Good comment though. Fits my mood as well.
