Re: Sims Medieval won't launch on Windows 10

Has anyone come to a conclusion about this problem yet? I have Windows 10, and haven't played Sims Medieval since getting this laptop, and I was wondering if there was, in fact, a way to play the game on here, or else I'll have to sell the game. I have the disk, and find it wasteful to have to buy a new digital copy (I didn't see anywhere on Origin where you can register your own codes from purchased copies so as to not have to repurchase).

    Hi @AmberLWilton,

Do you have the code that came with your disc? If so, as long as the code you have hasn't been registered already, you can redeem it in Origin to get a digital copy, no need to purchase the game again 🙂

Go to your Game Library in Origin and click on the top right corner where it says 'Add a game' > 'Redeem product code'.

Once redeemed, the game will appear in your Game Library, ready to download and install!

    Good luck with your Kingdom!

This does not work for me (I'm having this problem too but I can't even see the game playing in the background).
It say that I have to do that on the sims 3 site but that does nothing

    Hi @madde0515,

If you are having issues to redeem your code, both in Origin and https://www.thesims3.com/registeragame.html , then please, contact one of our advisers through EA Help. They will ask for your code and try to find out what's going wrong. 🙂

You will find a detailed explanation on how to contact them if you need it here.

If you have any question, don't hesitate to ask 🙂

    Welcome to Answers HQ!

I spoke to three people at EA help and it wasn't until I spoke to the third one that I was told that the company who made Sims Medieval went bust years ago and there has been no maintenance on it since. As such, there has been a serious problem with it not working on Windows 10. They said unfortunately there isn't much I can do to fix it.

I have tried absolutely everything they told me and everything I have found online and still it doesn't work. The most frustrating thing is that I was able to play it fine a few days ago before it suggested I do an update. Now the disc version and the digital version both fail to work. I am so angry that they continue to sell it when there are bugs which they never intend to fix.

Does anyone have any advice, other than the obvious solutions? Thank you.

I was told by EA that the game has had trouble working with Windows 10, and that there is not much that can be done :/

This is what you do. You get your old pc out of the garage...the one that smokes when you turn it on?  Put the game on that one.

  • So basically, you're telling me that I have to risk burning my house down to be able to play this game on Win10? No thanks, I'll just uninstall P&N since the Medieval base worked just fine on its own, even though I liked having the P&N quests and whatnot available for use.

  • I just contacted EA support by Chat, and must say that I was EXTREMELY impressed with the response I got.  I was having issues redeeming my code, and the agentI was chatting to sorted it out in about 30 seconds.  I can now install the game from Origin instead of from the DVD.

    Very impressed!

  • So I did as you suggested and went to The Sims 3 site to type in my code there. The thing is that the code I have needs five spaces to be typed in. On the website, I was only given four. Is there any other way to enter the code? I couldn't find the normal Sims Medival on the origins launcher. Only the Expanded version which I don't want to buy since I already have the game on a disc. When I entered the code on Origins, it told me to go to the Sims 3 website but it didn't work there either.

    What should I do?

  • @Sjobern , try contacting EA Help Support. They should be able to help you get the correct code to allow the game to run for you.

  • @Sjobern I had the exact same issue as you. If you're still interested in getting this to work, I have just been chatting with a helpful guy at EA's Help Support called Sumit. All he needed was my email, my code and the name of the game. He created a temporary password to log into my Origin account and after a little while he returned - the game was now added to my library 🙂

@Sjobern , yes, calling EA Customer Support should help. You will need to provide proof of your ownership of the game (like taking a picture of the disk and CD code) and emailing it to the address the Customer Support representative gives you. They should be able to add the game to your Origin account from there.

sorry to necro but just to add as this is 5 months later, i just called them and EA support will no longer register or provide digital copies of the game as it has been entirely sunset, and linking the codes doesn't even work on their end anymore. all they could suggest was to run it in compatability mode so for any future people looking at this thread, that's the only option.

  • @fhiew9 , to my knowledge they have not sunset Sims Medieval as it is still available to purchase on Origin. Sims 2 Ultimate Collection was sunset in 2018. I know folks have been having issues redeeming their Sims Medieval codes and I'm afraid only EA Customer Service can help with this issue.

  • I f you enable SecDrv service in windows 10 through admin priv it will often fix old copywrite protections and let games using securerom and safe disk DRM (like this title) run again; however,  Microsoft disabled the service in windows 10 for a reason because it's a possible vulnerability,  so remember to disable it after you're done playing.

The code that comes with the CD version of The Sims Medieval is too long for the Redeem product code page in Origin. I did that first and it sent me to The Sims 3 website.

@Joydove You can redeem it on The Sims 3’s “Register a Game” page, which accepts 20-digit codes. Make sure that your Sims 3 account uses the same login as the Origin account you want the game on.

There is also a “Redeem a Code” page so make sure you do not go to that one, it only accepts 16-digit codes for Sims 3 Worlds and Bonus content.

    I can confirm this works.

There are 2 ways to enable SecDrv ......described here:

     https://appauls.com/enable-secdrv-sys/

The 1st takes you via the cmd function - this did not work for me - it blocked the command but the 2nd method did.

Using the Registry you add secdrv and assign a value. Sounds complicated but the detailed descriptions AND screenshots makes it easy. Honestly.

I did completely uninstall the game ( I had both disc and download) before making the system changes and then re-installed after; I don't know if that made any difference but thought it wise to do so.

Uninstall all versions of your game.  Reinstall but don't put in the new update!  The last update just won't let the game play on Windows 10.
