All my sims 2 games worked fine on my old windows 7 laptop but it broke and I got a new dell windows 8 laptop. Sadly when I install sims 2 and any expansion packs the game loads perfectly and I can only play for 5 minutes or less before a message appears saying "This application has crashed and will now terminate" I have looked online and but nothing helped. So far I have-
- deleted all custom content
- reinstalled multiple times
- ran win xp/windows 7 compatibility
- deleted cache files.
- changed graphics to lowest o game
- tried to install patches
None of the above have worked and body shop only gets to the load screen before crashing.
Anyone sort this problem? 😕mileyfrustrated:

None of the packs work with my game. I am so sad, I love the sims 2 ☹️ I bought this computer to have a better gaming experience on it and my other PC games but this one by far was my favorite. 400$wasted stupid Windows 8... I think you can uninstall Windows 8 and download Windows 7. I have heard of people do it before but I'm not much of a techie so I'm clueless about it.

i hav the sims 2 double deluxe....i did whatever u stated...but its still not working... ☹️ ........whenever i create a family, the game stops...a dialogue box appears nd it says..."The application will now terminate,,,,,????????? pls help
This problem happened to me too but I tried to do what you suggested but there is no compatibility tab.
I cannot find one on mine either
I have heard of a program called start8. Removes windows 8, get windows 7. Haven't tried it, but techs says it works 😉

Years ago I started playing The Sims, The Sims 2 and eventually The Sims 3. I actually do not enjoy The Sims 3, so I am still playing The Sims 2. Unfortunately, since I bought a new laptop, I have not been able to play this game. The laptop has an Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU @2.20GHz 2.20 GHz processor, 8.00 GB RAM card and a GeForce GT 640 graphics card. Also, it works on Windows 8. At first, I could not install any expansion packs due to a problem with the updates. After searching the internet for a solution, I was able to install all the expansion packs. (I downloaded files that replaced some of my Program Files (x86) > EA Games > De Sims 2.) I was relieved, because I was finally able to play the game again. (Yay!) Unfortunately, the game shut down everytime I tried to create a new household or tried to enter an existing household. I tried several tricks that I found on the internet, such as changing the compatibility settings to Windows XP or Windows Vista, but nothing worked. Now, I am kind of desperate for a solution. It is difficult to say goodbye to a game I enjoyed playing for such a long time. And The Sims 3 just isn't doing it for me.

Okay I did this but it still didn't work. So I tried using (in compatibility) Windows 7. It worked as well, but a little better. But when I put any slight detail within the sim and I hit enter to go to the town, it then Crashes on me. Please can you help me!

PLEASE HELP I'M BEGGING YOU
I have spent hours upon hours trying to fix my problem - Sims 2 not working on Windows 8. I have uninstalled and reinstalled at least six times, and I need a permanent solution. I can open Sims 2 without a problem, select a town and then when I want to do anything else, the program freezes and terminates. I have tried running it in all of the compatibility modes, tried running it in windowed mode, as an administrator and so on with nothing working. Expansion packs will not even install - they get to the very end of the process and then I watch in despair as the progress bar goes backwards.
What can I do to get Sims 2 running smoothly on my Windows 8 computer, recover my families (which are still on there, but essentially useless) and install the expansion/stuff packs. If I receive no answer I will give up, sell all the games (over $500 worth, gone) and buy Sims3, which I really don't like. ☹️
- I had this weird feeling to play Sims 2 today although I have been only Sims 3 fan up until now. I had Sims 2 game with couple expansions some time ago but never really got into it then but today... ugh... I wanted to play it soooo bad! So then my bf went and got me the base game and some other EP's and SP's and I installed them. Then the troubles started. First my disc driver didn't read H&M Stuff Disc and when my bf fixed that problem by just uninstalling it for now then next thing is crashing when I'm about to finish creating my family in cas. The box appears where it states "The application will now terminate..." I don't know what to do! I have tried running it on every compatibility mode possible. The only things I haven't done is copying working files from other computer and downloading this Manager X thing.

This still hasn't worked for me. any other suggestions?
@rowbocool wrote:I know a fix! Right click on the Sims 2 and click properties. Then go to the compatibility tab and check the box named 'compatibility mode' then set the drop down menu under it to Windows XP (service pack 3).
What worked for you???
I FOUND A NEW FIX/FIXES! Ok this worked for me i went bought a new copy of the sims 2 this copy was made after the sims 3 it was already advertising the sims 3 expansions and stuff i installed the new copy to my computer hoping it would work becuase the sims 3 always ran smoothly on my computer it installed perfectly no game crashes hardly any lag and it worked perfectly but if you dont want to rebuy everything heres a link to a thread on modthsims http://modthesims.info/t/500523 Hope this helped

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH 😕mileyhappy:
Could someone please be a bit more specific, when you say go to The Sims2 do you mean the one on the desktop, or the one that you can find as the drive in the computer, theone that's in documents? because I don't see a compatability tab at all when I touch the properties button.
- Anonymous12 years ago
does this let you be able to iinstall the expasion packs

I have Sims 2 on Windows 8, and I tried the "Windows XP (service pack 3)". Did't help, made it worse.
Okay, bfore changing the compatibiity settings, my Sims 2 crashed everytime I tried to change the face shape of the first sim in Create-A-Family mode.
Then I changed the compatibiity sttings to your suggestion on here. Now once I click a neighboorhood to choose (I've tried all 3 pre-existing ones), and
it comes up with "Loading [Neighborhood name]... Once the msic begins again, is when you get the nice sweeping view of the neighboorhood and the short description of the neighboorhod... at least that's what you should get. I, on the other hand, get the music, and a lovely black screen with nothng except a lonely mouse, where i have to either restart the laptop or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to the desktop screen.I even attempted to uninstall and reinstall th game, but it still happens.
Any more ideas on how to fix it?? - Anonymous11 years ago
i've tried over and over but compatibility mode doesn't do anything! ☹️
- Anonymous11 years ago
This still doesn't work for my laptop! It was already on Windows XP (Service Pack 3) What do I do?
- Anonymous11 years ago
I haven't got compatibility tab. I think I'm the unluckiest person of the world. :/
I just recently downloaded The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection from Origin but when I right-click the icon and go to properties the compatibility tab isn't there! What do I do?
My little sister didn't get this game working on her laptop and asked my help. Her problem was is that the game would crash when trying to create a new family. I think it would have crashed too if she started playing (with a premade family) but she never tried anything else so I can't verify that. Now for those here with a similar problem the folowing solution might just work for you.
What's important here is that it's a laptop. A lot of laptops and some PC's use dual graphics, intergrated and high-performance. If the high-performance doesn't get activated it's very likely that your game will crash. In other words, make sure the game is running with the high performance activated.
