I just bought the game on Steam. I get the same error when trying to verify and run the game. I'm not running any active virus scanners and have made sure the program is whitelisted in Windows Firewall.
I have tried running the game both with and without the Pirates and Nobels DLC enabled. I have also tried launching the game both from Steam and the Origin platform.
What then could be causing the error?
