By the way, they also gave it out to people who never even owned TS2 and it's Ultimate Collection, not Edition.
You are right, the giveaway ended long ago, but the giveaway was about giving the game out to everyone for free. Everyone who already had The Sims 2 in their library on Origin got the Ultimate Collection automatically. Users with a physical copy of the game could and still can register that on Origin and will get the Ultimate Collection (thanks for the correction) in the process, if they contact customer support and provide them with the key for their copy.
