Sim Medieval progress gone

Sims Medieval

I've been playing for about a week and everything was saving fine. Then I opened it and had no saved kingdoms. I tried making a new one, saved, exited, and re-opened- the new one was gone too.  I found the saved files in my google drive trash and retrieved them, but they still don't show up in the game. Can I get my progress back? Or at least fix the issue with deletion so I can more forward?
