Sims 2 DirectX 9.0c error

I have recently received my grandparents old Windows XP pc (2GB RAM, intel celeron 2.93GHZ, I can’t find any information about a graphics card so I think it’s integrated to the motherboard or something) and it has been working perfectly fine as they have taken good care of it (except that my grandpa has never actually updated any drivers) but today I installed sims 2 from my dvd disc and installation went great and all (I have used the disc on my main laptop and know it works, it just didn’t run too well on windows 10 which is why I got the computer to try it on) but when I tried to launch the game I got an error (see image). I checked DXdiag and it says I have DirectX 9.0c. I don’t know what’s going on. I also have the DirectX end-user runtime on a usb drive if anybody wants me to try that. I don’t know how old the pc is but I do still think the graphics should be “new” enough to be able to run a simple game like sims 2. I’d like to add that I do not have any internet on the pc at the moment since I do not own any network cards, which is why I use a usb drive at the moment.

  • @Julli2727 , it seems to be a common error. Try using Graphics Rule Maker as that seems to get rid of the Direct X error (even if you are playing on an older computer).

@Tremayne4260Maybe I could mess with the config files instead? I’ve seen people do that since graphics rule maker is apparently sometimes “irreversible”. What settings in config should I change if that’s what I do?

edit: I’d like to add what I have done to try and fix the problem, I have tried adding a - W at the end of the shortcut, tried starting the game from files and that’s it I think.

@Julli2727 , make a copy of the Config files before trying to edit them. I would try to edit the settings for small medium and large to make them "larger".

@Tremayne4260 I haven’t tried anything yet but I figured out that I most likely need new drivers for my motherboard and maybe bios too (I have some kind of integrated graphics on the motherboard). I tried to install a different game that also got some kind of graphics problem which is how I figured it out. I will update once I have tried updating drivers.
