Well there in is the issues, every time i try and start the base game I get "you are running the wrong version of The sims 2. Please run Blah instead" Blah changes almost every time, and it's symbols I'm unsure how to type!
Unsure if it's related but when I try and uninstall the Sims 2 I get "you currently have one or more expansion packs installed. you must uninstall all expansion packs before uninstalling the sims 2." But I have already uninstalled all expansions and none are available on my system to uninstall.!

@stitchandtigger , have you moved your Sims 2 folder from Documents? If not, move it to your Desktop as it could be interfering with the install.
I also have an alternative method of installing the game that may work. Let me know if you'd like instructions on how.

I would like an alternative way please.
Though I think the issues lies with not being able to uninstall it? But I'm not the expert.
I have moved the folder (now, thank you) but still get the same message.

Also, to patch the base game, University and Nightlife, you will need a program called GrumpyLoader (also available on Mod the Sims) to be able to avoid crashing that corrupts the files.
