Unsure if it's related but when I try and uninstall the Sims 2 I get "you currently have one or more expansion packs installed. you must uninstall all expansion packs before uninstalling the sims 2." But I have already uninstalled all expansions and none are available on my system to uninstall.!
@stitchandtigger , have you moved your Sims 2 folder from Documents? If not, move it to your Desktop as it could be interfering with the install.
I also have an alternative method of installing the game that may work. Let me know if you'd like instructions on how.

Though I think the issues lies with not being able to uninstall it? But I'm not the expert.
I have moved the folder (now, thank you) but still get the same message.
- @stitchandtigger If you're not able to uninstall the game, try a program such as Revo Uninstaller or CCleaner which can help you remove registry references that might remain after uninstalling the game. That way you'll have a clean slate when you install again.
Also, to patch the base game, University and Nightlife, you will need a program called GrumpyLoader (also available on Mod the Sims) to be able to avoid crashing that corrupts the files.
