Sims 2 DVD Rom crashing

My sims 2 game allows me to make a family but when I try and move them into a house it appears to crash. If I don't do anything a small window appears with my sims dancing, indicating that they need the toilet, but I can not get to the actual and game. Before long the warning comes up saying "the application has crashed. The application will now terminate" 

I have tried all the standard solutions with Cash from EA but they can't help as they game is Sunset! i have installed the 4gb patch and am running Windows 10. Also the game is original DVD rom and not any of the deluxe or ultimate collection. I have the original sims 2 and the expansion pack's, currently up to and installed Apartment life.

Hope someone can help.

    What do you mean by patch it after you install it? What specific patch do you mean

    @Hazy3590 , there are a couple of patches that were released for the game. There is the 4GB patch as well as patches for the different EPs. You can find them if you do a Google search for them.
