Had this problem, but it was solved in a few steps.
I had to change the compatibility (more of, just specify to it what system it was running on)
and instead of opening normally, I had to right click and press "run as administrator" on the shortcut.
The wait was still around 5 minutes once I got to the "sims 2 fun with pets" screen, but it loaded and i've been playing fine for a while now =)
Thank you this worked for me I appreciate the help. I didn't have to change the computer type just hit run as administrator.
dont know if this means anything but for those who are having the issue whare it dosnt start atall like i am
i noticed the config file thats supposed to be in the my documents folder dosnt exist nither does the subfolder its supposed to be under
perhaps this could be the issue ?
