Sims 4 Kits vs Sims 3 Store: Which one did it better and why?

I remember buying a few things from The Sims 3 Store back in the day and liked the fact that I had the freedom to buy just the items I wanted and there are times when I wish we could do that with some of The Sims 4 items. However, I'm not totally against kits and have purchased a few of them but on a whole I tend to use CC for clothing and hairstyles so the two most recent kits aren't ones I'd ever see myself bothering with unless they were really cheap.
