sims medieval save

"a serious error has occurred while loading 'save.tsm" it is strongly recommended that you restart the application"

I keep getting this error on my Sims Medieval games! I'm really annoyed, I've just bought this game for the second time because I lost my last Origin account and couldn't get it back, repurchased the game and now I can hardly play! I get either Error Code 16 when trying to save or when I "save as" under a new name each time then I can't load it back. Origin is useless and won't give me a contact email just tells me to post in here. Since buying the game again only 2 days ago, I've restarted twice because I couldn't load my saves! I've now put a decent amount of hours into this one and I don't want to restart again.

Has anyone got a fix for this that actually works? Or does anyone know how to get Origin to refund the purchase? No point having spent money on a game which doesn't even work! I'd rather fix it and play it because I really like the game but I'm not going to start from the start each time, I purchased the whole game, not just the first couple of quests.

Please help ☹️

  • @accaliajayne  I have never had a error 16, but there is a couple of things to try:

Create a new Sims Medieval folder:
Rename The Sims Medieval folder in Documents>Electronic Arts, to for instance: "The Sims Medieval Error 16".
Start the game. A new The Sims Medieval folder will be created next to your old one.
Start a game and try to save it - use option Save As - is it possible? Can you load the save again?

If you can, you can go into your "The Sims Medieval error 16" folder, and from its Saves folder, copy your last save and paste it into the Saves folder in the new Sims Medieval folder.
Start the game, and try to save - using Save As - then exit and try to load the savegame again.

Always have the Sims medieval folder closed when starting the game.

Let me know how it goes.

  • @accaliajayne , The Sims Medieval shares a similar game architecture to Sims 3. Have you been able to save at all prior to the game giving you "Error Code 16"? Not sure what version of Windows you are playing on, but here is a link to the meaning of the various Error codes shared by Sims 3 and Sims Medieval. It also gives you suggestions on how solve the issue.

Another thing to try is to move the Sims Medieval folder (found Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims Medieval) to your Desktop. Do not copy, do not create a shortcut, actually move it to your Desktop and allow for the game to generate a new folder when starting up. Granted your saved games will not be present at this time, but start up a new game and play for about an hour to see if it will allow you to save.
