@fsalldsapweo For Sims Medieval, does your computer run Catalina? If so, that's the issue: Medieval is a 32-bit app, and Catalina is 64-bit only. There's no way around this, other than to play in a different OS: by playing on a different computer, by installing Windows on your Mac (via Bootcamp or Parallels), or by installing Mojave or earlier on your Mac or an external drive. (Let me know if you want information about any of these options.)
For Sims 4, please check your iCloud settings. If your Documents folder is being synced with cloud storage, your Sims 4 user data is being moved too; when the game can't find that folder, it creates a new one with no content.

Thank you for this! This needs to be added to the download page for the game. I spent two hours and three different EA support conversations trying to work this out, and you solved it! The tech support people never even suggested it! Dang. Thank you! Now I'm going to bootcamp my mac

hey! nice to see a fairly recent comment on this issue. what did you do to fix it?

@allisoneg95 There's no way to "fix" the issue, other than to install the game in a different operating system. You could install Windows on your Mac (via Bootcamp or Parallels), if you have enough free storage and are willing to buy a Windows 10 license. Or you could install Mojave or earlier on an external hard drive, if you have temporary access to a Mac that hasn't been updated to Catalina yet; then you could boot into that OS when you wanted to play. But Catalina itself won't run any 32-bit apps, and there's no sign Sims Medieval is getting an update to be 64-bit compatible.

Thanks for this! Could you elaborate on how to use an external harddrive with Mojave to run it? I've already prepared an external harddrive that has the Mojave installer on it, but I'm not sure what to do from here...

@signay I'm actually not sure whether the Mojave installer would run on the external, as opposed to your running it on a computer that has Mojave or earlier installed on it. But you can try the steps in this guide:

I've used it to install Mojave and Catalina on an external, with no hiccups. If it doesn't work for you, just plug the external into a Mac that hasn't been updated to Catalina yet.
