I've played all 4 versions and various spin offs and I don't have any stories of sims being as smart as your Mr. Big in that situation.
I think it was TS3, where after getting my sim to make their bed after waking up enough times and they would start to do it themselves and I remember thinking: "that's smart, they can learn now". A sim would learn what actions in what order if you made them do it enough times. I think washing hands after using the toilet was another instance of that. However, that was for all sims in that iteration and they would learn so it's really not the same as your story but it did impress me that they were teachable and that to me, made me feel as if they were smarter than before.
I think it was TS2, when sims would look at you if they questioned what you wanted them to do... I remember one of my sims looking at me as if to say "really?" after repeatedly telling them to "run with scissors" :D Almost as if they were questioning my motives and as if they were almost self aware. Again, not really the same thing, but it was something that made me question and think "are they really alive?" and made me feel as if they were smarter.
I don't really have any feelings like these for sims in TS4 though. Actually, I think they've regressed and gone back to not learning and I sure don't feel like they question me and my motives anymore. I've never had a "smart" sim as you described, but the past versions I did see things that gave me impressions they were smarter at least. This is the first time where I don't feel as if AI improvements have been made. :/
