So not fair

coffeecactus​  What news are you talking about?  Sims 1 and 2 were already released again, but no one was forced to pay a second time.  The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection is still available in the EA App for those who already own it, and the disc copies of both games can be made to work with some effort.

I haven't heard any news about other Sims games, but it's likely that if there are any remasters forthcoming, the same thing will happen: there will be a new version available for purchase, and the old version will also be available for those who own it.

As to whether this is fair, I think it is.  You still have the version you bought, in the condition it was in when the game was finished.  There's nothing stopping you from continuing to play it.  People who want a better version can pay again, although not nearly as much as they would have when the game was new—the remastered Sims 1 and 2 were $20 and $30 U.S., respectively, cheaper than either base game at release, and the new versions included almost all content for each game.
