Stuck at 800x600 Resolution on Windows 8

Question

As the title says - I'm stuck on a 800x600 resolution with most of the graphics options shaded out.

My PC is rather Overkill for Sims 2 - GTX 780oc 2500k etc - surely there is a fix to get it run at more than 800x600 - my monitors native res is 1920x1080
