have you ever turned your SimLit into audio versions? Would you listen to instead of read SimLit given the option? Any thoughts or moral support is appreciated
In your case: Interesting idea, go for it. In my case, absolutely not I would never do it for a million reasons!
- Almost everyone outside of the UK doesn't like my accent, I'm not posh and I'm not from London after all and therefore it's not one of the Nice English Accents that People Find Endearing and it's not easy to listen to for a lot of people due to the sort of strength of it, and a lot of words and sounds are almost slurred into one. And it's hard to take the more sinister parts of my story seriously if it was my voice speaking it. : P
- I don't like hearing my writing read aloud, it's very embarassing to me for some reason? Anyone else get that?
- My accent is quite strong and hard to understand, I speak in a monotone and struggle to force emotion or engagement into my voice so it would be more boring.
- I still haven't settled on pronounciations of some of the fantasy terms either.
- My story is already super long and hard for newcomers to pick up, it'd be even longer as an audiobook and even harder to engage with.
However, I have an idea of (depending on pricing) getting a printed single 'proper book' copy of my story done as a sort of physical preservation. But that likely won't happen and I'll probably just make a PDF instead.
I personally wouldn't listen to an audiobook of any kind, it's hard to concentrate on. It's easier for me to read off of a page than it is to listen, it's the same reason I don't like watching videos or TV very much. But that is just what is personally easy for me, and not a criticism of audiobooks- my mum prefers listening to books than reading them. I think not being able to do different voices for all of the characters is honestly a better thing than a worse thing in this context.
